HOW BLOOD GROUP AFFECT A PREGNANT WOMAN BABY.(Rhesus incompatibility)

By Abies Amen Bolarinde

We have alot of couples that are ignorance of this TOPIC, and Many usually make this mistake before getting married. They are only concern about the genotype which might be AA, AS, SS, but neglecting the blood group which is also very important.

When Miscarriages and stillbirth continue to occur, some will believe that their problem is spiritual from witches and wizard, not knowing the problem is actually from the blood group which can be stopped by a particular injection.

It’s not really an issues when one have an ideal about it and know what to do, the bad side is not knowing your rhesus factor. not knowing the risk and danger that follows, And not knowing what to do about it when issues arrive.

First thing to know is that your first child is usually free from the crisis (if you haven’t had any abortion or miscarriage before the pregnancy).
But subsequent pregnancy can lead to back to back complication if the right thing is not done.

Now let me explain to you how the blood group can affect a pregnant woman and her baby.

In blood group we have the A, B, 0 and AB.
There’s something called rhesus factor, this rhesus factor is a certain protein on the red Blood cell, and this is what differentiate different blood group, for instant We have O+ and there’s also 0- (O positive and O negative).
We have A+ and there’s also A-
we have B+ and there’s also B-
we have AB+ and there’s also AB-

Anybody that is 0+(O positive) means that person is having this rhesus protein on his or her red blood cells. And whoever is O- (O negative) means the person is not having this protein on his or her red blood cell.

Reason it’s very important for you to know the blood group, expecially the rhesus factor of your partner before getting married.

Now let’s look at what happened when a rhesus negative woman get pregnant for a rhesus positive man. When the baby is growing and the baby is carrying the rhesus factor which is positive and the women is negative, if there’s any contact between the blood of the baby and the blood of the mother, the woman is going to be very sensitive to that. There by she’s going to produce antibodies that will surely affect the baby, which can lead to hemolytic anemia, and the baby red blood cell will be destroyed faster than it can replace, and this can lead to stillbirth, and many miscarriages which some women has experienced.

This is the reason it’s very important for any pregnant women who is rhesus negative married to rhesus positive man to take this injection (name withdraw to avoid drug abuse) very important.
This is how it works, this injection will Prevention the woman from releasing antibodies that will fight the baby. And it will prevent hemolytic anemia, stillbirth, miscarriage, jaundice liver and heart failure. That’s why it is very important for the pregnant woman that is rhesus negative married to rhesus positive man to take this injection. The first shot is administered 28weeks approximately (7 months) and the second shot is 72 hours (3 days) after delivery.

Please note, if this antibodies can develop without the woman taken the injection, there will be continues stillbirth/miscarriages in as much as the woman is still married to the same man.
